I’ve worked with Kat for almost two years and I can firmly say that in addition to her razor sharp design sense, she also has an amazing gift for curiosity and collaborative problem solving. As a data scientist with an academic research background, I really enjoyed working with Kat to design and test our AI and ML systems so that users would always be getting the most benefit from the algorithms and models that I worked on. Kat was always a wonderful thought partner in thinking through how model and algorithm behaviors would be perceived by users. There were many times where she was able to quickly prototype our ideas with uncanny precision and speed. I will also say that in this age of remote work, we should all aspire to Kat’s level and style of organization. She is very diligent about documenting her plans and processes such that it’s not only easy to iterate on our ideas and refer back to our plans asynchronously from two different time zones, but it was enjoyable to do so too.

As a user experience designer, she is dedicated to the person on the other side of the pixels, treating them like the capable and smart human they are. As an illustrator, she crafts delightful visuals and animations. I saw these uplift the whole mood of traditionally monotonous software. When I noticed Kat had a knack and a love for written content, too, I was thrilled when she joined me in creating in-app messages and onscreen text - while still serving her development teams. Kat's talents and bright attitude will shine anywhere.

I've been working with Kat for the past eight months, and I can attest to the personal and professional qualities that make her an exceptional team member. She cares deeply about doing work that is principled and inclusive of her teammates' ideas while keeping an authentic touch. I worked in the User Experience (UX) group with Kat for about 2.5 years. She quickly proved herself as an expert for some of our new tools at the time. She was a designer on several projects that needed fresh perspectives. Her open-mind, ability to grasp information and knowledge quickly, and courage to try new ideas made her an ideal teammate to work with for such innovative projects. Her ability to see different perspectives and her genuine concern for others make her an great UX designer, but also a wonderful colleague. Kat was behind a few internal projects including our UX library and our group's social media presence. She made sure researchers were included in each of these endeavors. In addition, another researcher and I consulted with Kat on microcopy samples for a big project. It was for a participatory design workshop on tone of voice and we were grateful for her help. Her unwavering warmth, energy, and positivity will surely be missed.
