Where did the name “Carnivorous Carrot” come from?
In October of 2016, I was a carrot for halloween. My friends and I ate copious amounts of barbecue, and I gained the title Carnivorous Carrot that night.
“That would make a great brand,” I thought to myself. I looked online to see if carrot wine was a thing, and behold - it was.
Research
I looked into wine label design, researched what kind of information is typically displayed on a wine bottle, and I went to a local liquor store to look at wine labels from around the world.

Process
I found a guide on designing wine labels, and used it when creating my own for Carnivorous Carrot.
Step 1: Pick a Theme
- Classic: Think traditional, prestige, elegant, regal and dignified. Wine labels model traditional label styles.
- Fun & Silly: Think casual, laid back and valuing personal experience over prestige. Wine labels can be hand drawn, whimsical, and often include animals.
- Modern: Think state-of-the-art, advanced, other worldly and visionary. Modern wine labels play with negative space, typography, minimalism and focus on the materials on which they’re printed.
- Old Timey: Think handmade, natural materials, and honoring the past. Old timey designs use classic typography, illustrative designs, and vintage artisan techniques.
I went with a modern theme because I wanted to incorporate graphic design elements to communicate a classy vibe for a funky new-world wine.
Step 2: Pick Elements I Like
I wrote out some key features I wanted to be on the label and some key descriptive words I wanted for the brand.
I wanted Carnivorous Carrot to be trendy, high-end, grungy, expensive, and cool.

Step 3: Sketching and Photoshop
Went through a few different personalities before I landed on the paint splatter.

Step 4: Mock it up!
With carrots, paint splatter, and a sweet lookin font, I put together what became Carnivorous Carrot! Your new favorite carrot wine.
